Kids Take Over First Annual Youth Day Celebration Begins
Tomorrow
at Lincoln Park First annual Youth Day celebration in Riverside will begin tomorrow at Lincoln Park Recreation Center as a prelude to the big parade and entertainment program Labor Day.
Carnival rides, booths, a country store and a softball game are planned tomorrow.
The big Monday parade will begin at 10 a. m. at Riverside Community Settlement House, Fourteenth and Marispoa Sts., and end at Lincoln Park ball diamond. A rock and roll dance at Lincoln Park will conclude the celebration from 8 p.m. until midnight Monday.
Charles Villegas, son of the late Sgt. Ysmael Villegas of Casa Blanca, won the grand marshal title and will head the parade with Sheriff Joe Rice, honorary marshal. Mayor E.V. Dales also will take part. March Air Force Base band will march and there will be costumed youngsters, floats and pets.
From 11 a.m. to 11:30 parade entries will give a demonstration followed by the Center's Rhythmette Drill team.
Afternoon activities will be on the park lawn, opening at 1 p.m. with a fanfare by the Municipal Band Trumpeters. Donna Klaus and her majorettes will entertain prior to the Municipal Band concert from 2 to 3 p.m.
A bathing beauty contest is scheduled at 2:30.
Variety entertainment is planned from 3:10 to 4 p.m. followed by a swimming meet from 4 to 5 p.m. The dance will wind up the day.
The event is sponsored by Victoria Business and Professional Women's Club in cooperation with the Settlement Assn. and City Recreation Department. Mrs. William Davis is General Chairman.
Line of march for the parade will be west on Twelfth Street to Victoria Avenue, north on Victoria Avenue to Ninth Street, west on Ninth Street to Park Avenue and south on Park Avenue to Lincoln Park.
The entire community is invited to join the celebration. Food and soft drink booths will be set up.

Pets may march in the parade and there will be prizes for the biggest pet, littlest pet, ugliest pet, etc.
Reptiles, birds and rodents must be confined but no pet that can be controlled will be excluded.
Grand Marshal of the Youth Day parade will be the boy who sells the most 10 cent tickets.
